Product detailed description

The Shipibo-Conibo are among the best-known and most widespread Indigenous cultures of the Peruvian Amazon. Their culture developed through the connection of the Shipibo people and the communities living along the Ucayali River.

In the area of the Cashibococha lagoon, where we have our land, the Cashibo tribe once lived. According to historical accounts, this tribe was also known for cannibalistic rituals. The Shipibo-Conibo later pushed them further downstream along the Ucayali River.

Today, Indigenous communities in the Amazon face the gradual loss of their natural environment. Large areas of land are being transformed for cattle farming and oil palm cultivation, affecting the traditional way of life of local people.

The name Ucayali comes from the Quechua language and is often translated as “The Valley of Many Forces”.
