Our Criollo Cacao Story

Our Criollo cocoa mass comes from our long-term partner Felipe, a small-scale farmer from the surroundings of Pucallpa in the Peruvian Amazon.

Felipe grows cacao together with his family. On his plantations, he mainly cultivates the Criollo variety, considered one of the rarest and most prized types of cacao. Every stage of production – from harvesting and fermentation to drying and processing the cocoa mass – is carried out under his personal supervision.

When his own harvest is not sufficient to meet demand, Felipe also purchases cocoa beans from small farmers in nearby villages. He works only with growers whose cultivation and processing methods meet his quality standards. This allows him to maintain control over every batch that leaves his processing facility.

Why Criollo?

The best-known cocoa varieties are Forastero, Trinitario, and Criollo.

Criollo is regarded as the original and rarest cocoa variety. The trees naturally produce fewer pods than more common varieties, resulting in lower yields.

This lower production is one of the reasons why Criollo is so highly valued. Its flavour is smoother, less bitter, and often reveals delicate nutty, fruity, and floral notes. Many cocoa enthusiasts compare Criollo to fine wine – a smaller harvest rewarded by a richer and more complex flavour profile.

Our Cocoa Selection

We import 100% Criollo cocoa mass from Felipe, traditionally produced directly in Peru.

The cocoa mass is not manufactured months in advance and stored in warehouses. Instead, Felipe produces it continuously according to current orders, ensuring that we receive freshly processed cocoa.

In addition to this cocoa mass, we also offer more intensely roasted Criollo cocoa pieces and cocoa powder from another Peruvian producer. Each product has its own distinctive flavour profile, allowing you to choose the one that suits your taste best.

As with all products in our range, we place great emphasis on quality. We continuously monitor the quality of our cocoa and other products and work only with producers we have trusted for many years.

About Us

We are a direct importer from Peru, supplying both retail and wholesale customers. We work closely with local producers and family farms whose work we know personally. This allows us to know exactly where our products come from and how they are produced.
